Caring for Your Flowers
Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement
Step 1: Unpack and Inspect
Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.
Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.
Step 2: Prepare the Containers
Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten flower life.
Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.
Step 3: Trim and Place in Water
Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacteria growth.
Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.
Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.
Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain
Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging, strip additional leaves and thorns (if applicable).
Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. Allow your flowers to continue to hydrate for another 8 hours before beginning the design process.
Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.
Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.
Step 5: Time to Design
Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.
Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.
Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.
Tips from Our Experts
Always keep flower buds above the bucket or vase rim to prevent your blooms from bruising.
Warm environments speed up blooming, while cooler areas slow it down. Adjust storage as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.
Use a floral finishing spray after arranging blooms to help them last longer.
Precautions
Tinted Flowers: If your kit contains tinted flowers, they may release color into the water, which is perfectly normal. To keep the water clear and clean, be sure to change it regularly. Tinted water can also stain surfaces, so be cautious. The dye may transfer to skin or clothing, so we recommend wearing gloves while handling. For added protection, especially with clothing like a white wedding dress, wrap the stems to prevent dye from transferring.
Thorns: Flowers with thorns require extra care. Wear gloves when handling them, and consider using a thorn stripping tool for added ease and safety.

Flowers arrived on time. Just as the instructions state, they were thirsty and looked like they'd been on quite the journey! We followed all instructions re: water and temp - and again, like the instructions stated, they perked up wonderfully. Out of everything we ordered (two Lavender Dreams DIY kits, 2 bunches of Playa Blanca roses, 1 bunch Ocean Song lavender roses, 2 bunches Nirvana lavender spray roses, 5 bunches French lavender, 5 bunches Gunni Eucalyptus and 5 bunches Israeli Ruscus), I think we only had three stems we could not use out of over 650 stems!!! And it had more to do with OUR handling of the stems than with anything FiftyFlowers did or damage in shipment! This was the first time our flower person (who works at a local florist part time) had ever worked with Fifty Flowers. She was very worried about the condition everything would arrive in - but you won her over!! Everything was beyond beautiful. The bride said it was everything she hoped for. I will not hesitate to recommend FiftyFlowers to anyone looking for a DIY floral option for any purpose!

I was initially very excited to work with FiftyFlowers because their flower selection is beautiful. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. Not a single flower I ordered for my wedding arrived as expected.
In the days leading up to the wedding, I spent countless hours contacting customer service trying to find out if my flowers would arrive at all. I also ordered a DIY flower set, but the shipment that did arrive was completely incorrect and included flowers that were essentially the opposite of what I had ordered.
Because I received little communication and no timely resolution, I was forced to purchase replacement flowers from a local florist at about $6 per stem just days before my wedding. Thankfully, the greenery and filler flowers I ordered from Costco arrived on time and helped salvage the situation.
What was most frustrating was the lack of accountability and support from customer service. The manager blamed me for the delivery issue because the order was shipped through UPS, even though I had specifically arranged delivery to a FedEx location for my out-of-town wedding. At no point was I informed this would be a problem. Despite the stress, incorrect order, and failed delivery, I still have not received clear answers or a refund.
Sadly, after this experience, I would not order from FiftyFlowers again.

Two separate carrier situations occurred on this order, and they had different causes.
The first shipment arrived with the wrong item due to a box swap during transit. This was a carrier handling error outside our control, and while it is rare, it has been addressed with the shipping carrier. We issued a full refund for this item. However, we understand that a refund did not solve the timing needs for your event, and with the timeline involved, a same-day or next-day replacement was not possible.
The remaining shipments were refused by the recipient (Walgreens) when the carrier attempted delivery because the address entered at checkout was a FedEx retail pickup location. Our shipping operates through multiple carriers, including UPS, and they will not deliver to FedEx pickup locations. Our manager, Mary, spoke with you and walked through exactly why this happened.
We process more than 1,000 orders each week, and a carrier pickup address appears can appear as a standard street address in our system unless we are notified in advance. If we know ahead of time that you are traveling or need a carrier pickup, we can coordinate with the correct carrier and request Hold For Pick Ups. Your experience is important to us, and we genuinely care about every farm-direct order that leaves our farms.
