Please Note

Your flowers will arrive looking thirsty and sleepy. This is absolutely NORMAL. Please see our Flower Care tab on this page to learn how to properly care for and handle your flowers.

As flowers are a natural product of Mother Nature and monitor resolutions can differ, the exact color tones of this flower may vary to some degree.

Package contents and prices are based on availability and may change due to weather and market conditions. If a substitution is necessary, we take great care to ensure your order closely matches your original flower choice, even if this means substituting flowers of higher value. While we will make every effort to contact you, there may be rare instances where we are unable to reach you in time. In such cases, we may proceed with substitutions to ensure your order ships on schedule, even without prior verbal confirmation.

Caring for Your Garden Roses

Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect

  • Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.

  • Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.

Step 2: Prepare the Containers

  • Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten flower life.

  • Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

  • Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacteria growth.

  • Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.

  • Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.

Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain

  • Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging, strip additional leaves and thorns (if applicable), and remove guard petals (outer layers that may look bruised or brown).

  • Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. Allow your flowers to continue to hydrate for another 8 hours before beginning the design process.

  • Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.

  • Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.

Step 5: Time to Design

  • Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.

  • Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.

  • Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

Tips from Our Experts

  • Always keep flower buds above the bucket or vase rim to prevent your blooms from bruising.

  • Warm environments speed up blooming, while cooler areas slow it down. Adjust storage as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Use a floral finishing spray after arranging blooms to help them last longer.

Precautions

  • Thorns: Flowers with thorns require extra care. Wear gloves when handling them, and consider using a thorn stripping tool for added ease and safety.

Pretty, but…

I purchased these flowers, along with others, to use as part of a marketing campaign, so was going to make arrangements to give as gifts to potential referral sources. The roses were delivered a day late and already fully open and starting to show signs that they are end of their lives, two days short of the “event date” which is the date they were going to be delivered to their recipients. I cannot deliver something that will die the next day, assuming they even last until Monday. I still haven’t received the majority of my order, which is now 2 days out of water, something that will likely impact their life span as well. While this may be a good company for a 1 day event, I would never recommend them for any purpose similar to mine, where they would be part of arrangements to be given as gifts. The ironic thing is the delivery carrier for the ones I haven’t received yet said they couldn’t be delivered yesterday, which would have been 1 day late, due to weather but they were in a town 25 miles away and there was absolutely no bad weather between here and there yesterday so I believe they were simply lying. Not the floral company’s fault per say, but unfortunately casts a bad look on to them as well for me.

Hi Kendra,
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We truly appreciate you choosing FiftyFlowers and want to address your concerns regarding your recent order of our Cherub Garden Roses.
We deeply understand the importance of timing and the condition of flowers for marketing campaigns and gifting purposes. Regarding the delay, unfortunately, severe weather in our country, including flooding and tornadoes, impacted shipping routes. Although the roses still arrived before your marketing campaign, we can imagine the frustration such a delay may have caused. Please rest assured that we have issued a credit for this inconvenience as part of our commitment to making things right.
Additionally, our flowers are carefully treated and shipped without water to endure transit conditions. This is why the hydration process after delivery is critical to revive and extend their lifespan. We understand your concerns about the roses arriving fully open, and your feedback will help us work with our farms and shipping partners to maintain the highest standards for future deliveries.
Your experience is important to us, Kendra, and we’re committed to improving our processes to better serve you and all our customers. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 1-877-50-ROSES or cservice@fiftyflowers.com if you have any further questions or concerns—we’re here to help.
Thank you again for your feedback and for giving us the opportunity to serve you.
