Your Sunflowers may arrive with curved stems, but they can be straightened with proper care. Please see the Flower Care section on this page for detailed care instructions.
Sunflowers are phototropic, meaning they naturally bend toward light and may shift in arrangements unless evenly lit.

Please Note

Your flowers will arrive looking thirsty and sleepy. This is absolutely NORMAL. Please see our Flower Care tab on this page to learn how to properly care for and handle your flowers.

As flowers are a natural product of Mother Nature and monitor resolutions can differ, the exact color tones of this flower may vary to some degree.

Package contents and prices are based on availability and may change due to weather and market conditions. If a substitution is necessary, we take great care to ensure your order closely matches your original flower choice, even if this means substituting flowers of higher value. While we will make every effort to contact you, there may be rare instances where we are unable to reach you in time. In such cases, we may proceed with substitutions to ensure your order ships on schedule, even without prior verbal confirmation.

Caring for Your Sunflowers

Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect

  • Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.

  • Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.

Step 2: Prepare the Containers

  • Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten flower life.

  • Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

  • Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacteria growth.

  • Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.

  • Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.

Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain

  • Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging, strip additional leaves and thorns (if applicable).

  • Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. Allow your flowers to continue to hydrate for another 8 hours before beginning the design process.

  • Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.

  • Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.

Step 5: Time to Design

  • Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.

  • Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.

  • Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

Special Notes for Sunflowers

  • Sunflowers may not have perfectly straight stems. Please take this into account when arranging your bulk flowers.

Tips from Our Experts

  • Always keep flower buds above the bucket or vase rim to prevent your blooms from bruising.

  • Warm environments speed up blooming, while cooler areas slow it down. Adjust storage as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Use a floral finishing spray after arranging blooms to help them last longer.

I love sunflowers!

I mixed some of the DIY combos and some specific flower packs to make the arrangements for my wedding. All of the flowers arrived intact and were easy to prep for arrangements. The recommended delivery dates were perfect, gave just the right amount of time for the sunflowers to open up and they lasted so well I ended up making some vase arrangements to keep around the house to remember the best day of my life!

Hi Tabitha! We're so excited to have been a part of your unforgettable wedding! We love the mix you chose- it's such a fun and magical look. It's also wonderful to know you kept some of them around. What a great way to brighten up your days! Thank you for sharing your picture, we love how the Sunflowers on the bouquet match your tattoo!

Sunflowers

I bought these for a wedding I did. First of all, the box was pretty badly mangled when it arrived, but that was the shipping company, NOT FiftyFlowers' fault. Some of the sunflowers had the heads snapped off, but FiftyFlowers made it right the very same day. Most of them endured the abuse quite well, and looked gorgeous all day in the sun in June in Arizona. I have purchased these sunflowers in the past, and I will again. Just big beautiful flowers all around. Keep in mind if you buy these, normal kitchen scissors are not enough to cut the stems. They are BIG.

Hi Christine,

Thank you so much for your kind and honest words. I'm so glad to hear that you were happy with your flowers. FiftyFlowers flowers are always fresh and of the highest quality, but sometimes, due to shipping constraints, 1-2 flowers per bunch may arrive bruised or damaged and may require additional TLC.

I'm happy to hear that you were satisfied with the solution and quickness offered by our Customer Care team. We always want to make sure our customers are happy, and we appreciate your feedback. We hope to keep working with you in the future!

Beachy Bohemian Wedding

Thanks to COVID-19, my brother-in-law and then future sister-in-law had make the decision to postpone their big celebration until 2021 but still wanted to get married on their original August 2020 date. They made the decision about a month before their date and had a lot of new planning to do! I offered to help with whatever they needed and was excited when they asked if I would do the flower arrangements for their arbor. I got married the September of 2019 and took on the challenge of putting my own centerpieces and bouquets together so I knew the stress of having to do this day-of. My sister-in-law had opted to use her florist for her and her MOH bouquets but wanted to decorate the arbor, since they postponed their venue no other decorations were needed. I directed her to FiftyFlowers and we ended up getting pampas grass and purple roses (the eucalyptus was purchased from her florist). The arrangements were a huge hit! So many compliments on how professional they looked. My sister-in-law and I were able to save some of the pampas after the ceremony for around the house decor.
