Please Note

Your flowers will arrive looking thirsty and sleepy. This is absolutely NORMAL. Please see our Flower Care tab on this page to learn how to properly care for and handle your flowers.

As flowers are a natural product of Mother Nature and monitor resolutions can differ, the exact color tones of this flower may vary to some degree.

Package contents and prices are based on availability and may change due to weather and market conditions. If a substitution is necessary, we take great care to ensure your order closely matches your original flower choice, even if this means substituting flowers of higher value. While we will make every effort to contact you, there may be rare instances where we are unable to reach you in time. In such cases, we may proceed with substitutions to ensure your order ships on schedule, even without prior verbal confirmation.

Caring for Your Garden Roses

Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect

  • Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.

  • Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey.

Step 2: Prepare the Containers

  • Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten flower life.

  • Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

  • Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacteria growth.

  • Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.

  • Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.

Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain

  • Hydration Time: Allow flowers at least 4 hours to hydrate, though 8 to 12 hours is ideal. After hydrating, remove protective packaging and guard petals (outer layers that may look bruised or brown).

  • Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.

  • Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.

Step 5: Time to Design

  • Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.

  • Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.

  • Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

Tips from Our Experts

  • Always keep flower buds above the bucket or vase rim to prevent your blooms from bruising.

  • Warm environments speed up blooming, while cooler areas slow it down. Adjust storage as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Use a floral finishing spray after arranging blooms to help them last longer.

Precautions

  • Thorns: Flowers with thorns require extra care. Wear gloves when handling them, and consider using a thorn stripping tool for added ease and safety.

Great Experience!

I was really happy with my wedding flowers and the experience of DIYing the day before the wedding. It is a lot of work, but I enjoyed spending the time with family and friends and making beautiful things together! I just watched a lot of YouTube tutorials and everything went as planned! It was very rewarding to see it all come together so well!

These roses were the only thing that I wasn't thrilled with for our order. They looked like they were slightly damaged in packaging or shipping and never fully opened. The color was also a bit lighter in person than in the photo online.

Simple, Subtle, Beautiful

From the get-go, I knew I wanted something simple and elegant that would fit in perfectly with our garden wedding location while offering a subtle pop of color. As a budget and DIY bride, I also wanted something I could handle easily at the right price. When I saw a snapdragons at a wedding while perusing inspiration photos, I knew I had found my flower. I found the price and ease I was looking for at Fifty Flowers.

I wasn't set on having any particular color (our only wedding color was purple) so I ordered the farm mix and decided I'd figure everything out when the flowers arrived. When the huge box came three days before my wedding, I was thrilled open it and see such a lovely variety of colors -- ivory, yellow, light purple, dark purple, orange, pink. The variety didn't disappoint. I had so many options to work with!

I followed the care and transportation directions from the Fifty Flowers blog to a T and despite my lack of a green thumb, they not only survived, but thrived! The hardest part was getting them into my car and an hour drive down to our destination in historic St. Augustine. I imagine dragging the buckets up three flights of stairs to our suite on the third flood of an old inn from the 1700s was a challenge too, but I left that to the men in the family!

The night before the wedding, I gathered with my mother and a few friends and put together the centerpieces. I used a variety of glass vases I picked up from thrift stores and was pleased with the results. Each centerpiece was unique in its own way! The day of the wedding, my mother and maid of honor spent about an hour putting together the bouquets, boutonnieres and a small basket for the flower girl. It was easy and low key. We had an abundance of white snapdragons so we used those for the boutonnieres and as a neutral color for the bouquets. We had plenty of light and dark purple that we used to really brighten the bouquets and match the wedding color. My wedding dress was very intricate and delicate, so I kept my bouquet simple so it wouldn't detract from the dress. We finished up our floral design with simple yet beautiful yellow snapdragons for the mothers -- a couple of strands they could carry when they walked down the aisle. It was a last minute addition, as we had so many flowers left over, but it was such a nice touch.

I received tons of compliments on the flowers all evening. When the night was over, we encouraged guests to take the centerpieces and had the venue take the rest flowers for the ladies in their office. We still had so many left back in our suite, so we gave them to the inn we were staying at to put out in all of the rooms. They were thrilled! I put my bouquet in water when we got back home from the wedding and I was surprised when I came back from our honeymoon a week later to find it was still in excellent condition!
