Your flowers will arrive looking thirsty and sleepy. This is completely NORMAL. Please see our Flower Care tab on this page to learn how to properly care for and handle your flowers.

Package contents and prices are based on availability and may change due to weather and market conditions. If a substitution is necessary, we take great care to ensure your order closely matches your original flower choice, even if this means substituting flowers of higher value. In such cases, we may proceed with substitutions to ensure your order ships on schedule, even without prior verbal confirmation.

Caring for Your Lisianthus

Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect

  • Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.

  • Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.

Step 2: Prepare the Containers

  • Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten flower life.

  • Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

  • Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacteria growth.

  • Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.

  • Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.

Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain

  • Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging, strip additional leaves and thorns (if applicable).

  • Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. Allow your flowers to continue to hydrate for another 8 hours before beginning the design process.

  • Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.

  • Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.

Step 5: Time to Design

  • Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.

  • Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.

  • Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

Tips from Our Experts

  • Always keep flower buds above the bucket or vase rim to prevent your blooms from bruising.

  • Warm environments speed up blooming, while cooler areas slow it down. Adjust storage as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Use a floral finishing spray after arranging blooms to help them last longer.

beautiful flowers

The Lisanthus we received from you are still blooming after 18 days in a vase. Not all, but some. These flowers were unexpectedly hardy.

Peach and Coral Asheville Wedding

We decided to take on DIY-ing our flowers so we could splurge in other areas, and it turned out SO well! The flowers were arranged by the bride, mothers of bride and groom, and many aunties from both sides. We had tons of family and friends helping us arrange and it was really fun to bring everyone together before the wedding. From a detailed consulatation to checking on our deliveries day-of, FiftyFlowers made it so much less intimidating to take this big project on! I loved being able to search by color palette to get the perfect garden roses in corals, peachy pinks, and creamy ivory for our simple but beautiful bouquets. Using the bulk centerpieces was also a huge time saver, we were able to find the Peach Bulk Centerpieces which fit our palette perfectly, and took so much of the arranging off our plate!

We had so many flowers left over, we ended up filling some impromptu bud vases to showcase our favorite Asheville breweries! We were also able to decorate our mantlepiece with all of the greenery we had left over. Everything was absolutely beautiful, and we got so many compliments on the flowers--it was so fun to be able to say "We did them ourselves!".

Southern Boho DIY Wedding

My wedding was everything I could have ever imagined! It was at the historic Ribault Club in Jacksonville, FL on November 3rd, 2017. It was a small but elegant wedding surrounded by our closest family and friends. We DIY-ed just about everything we could think of for the wedding - we built the altar, the bar, the centerpieces. I made all the signs, the wedding favors, and my bridesmaids dresses. My favorite thing that we did ourselves though was the flowers!!! It was a lot of work and our house was stuffed full of flowers but it so wonderful to be able to do it and have my family and friends all together to help. Thanks FiftyFlowers for making my wedding dreams come true!
