Our flowers are shipped directly from our farms to your doorstep. Before shipping your flowers, we prepare them for their journey with proper hydration methods. If your flowers appear sleepy and thirsty after their journey it is absolutely NORMAL. Follow these simple steps to ensure your flowers have the proper care.

  1. When your boxes arrive, it is important that you get your flowers in water as quickly as possible. Open your boxes and remove any protective packaging, such as foam or paper.
  2. Inspect your flowers.*
  3. Gather buckets or containers to hold the flowers. Ensure your buckets or containers are very clean. We recommend rinsing them with warm water.
  4. Fill the containers with at least 4 inches of fresh, cold water. If flower food is available, follow the package directions for adding it to the water.
  5. Cut any straps and remove flowers from the box. Remove any rubber bands or plastic sleeves securing flower bunches together.
  6. Remove any foliage that would fall below the waterline. Leaves below the waterline may cause bacteria to form, shortening the life of your flowers.
  7. Using sharp flower shears or scissors, cut stems diagonally under cool, running water. Cut about an inch off of each stem.
  8. Immediately after cutting the stem, place the flower in the prepared water.
  9. Ensure that you have sufficient room in each bucket for the amount of stems you will be storing. Do not overcrowd your containers. Overcrowding may damage stems and blooms and effect the blooming process.
  10. Allow flowers at least 4 hours to hydrate, flowers may take up to 12 hours to properly hydrate. Periodically check the water levels, flowers drink a lot of water when they first arrive and the water may need to be refilled.
  11. Keep flowers away from direct sunlight, drafts or extreme temperatures. Flowers should be stored in a cool, dry area until ready to use.
  12. Change water every 24 hours to keep flowers fresh.

*If upon first inspection, you foresee a problem with your flowers, do not proceed processing your order. Leave the flowers intact in the box and call us immediately at 1-877-50 ROSES (507-6737)

These looked limp and didn't come to life in time for the wedding. We didn't use them.

Monica S.
Romantic Washington, D.C. Garden Wedding

There isn't a day that goes by that Gaetan, my husband, doesn't compliment me about the way I look, my style, or something I've decorated. I am so grateful to have someone as sweet and supportive as him in my life. For our wedding I had decided that I wanted to do most of the design details myself, to include the flowers. I have always loved flowers - I think it is because when I was a baby my mother always used to put a bouquet of flowers near me. She wanted me to be surrounded by beautiful things, and so it meant a lot to me to have beautiful flowers at our wedding in her honor since she is no longer with us. I spent a lot of time researching what type of flowers I wanted and ultimately selected four that I thought would look nice together and match the theme of our garden wedding. The flowers arrived two days before our wedding and they were gorgeous and exactly what I had hoped for! But I soon realized while doing all the prep work that making all the centerpieces, bouquets and boutonnieres was going to be a lot of work! And as anyone who has gotten married knows, the few days before the wedding are the most stressful. That whole day Gaetan kept commenting about how amazing the flowers were and kept asking me how I had figured out which ones to pick. That evening after a long and busy day, I made a sample bouquet and decided that it was probably a good idea to start putting the rest together, even though I was exhausted. Gaetan made me a cocktail, told me not to stress and asked how he could help. We ended up staying up until 1:00 a.m. to finish all the flowers, which actually turned out to be a lot of fun. Gaetan kept taking photos of the whole process and even made a video tutorial of me putting a centerpiece together. It was so sweet of him to help me and tell me how impressed he was by me. It was in that moment, 36 hours before our wedding that I realized all over again just how lucky I am to be marrying him.
And then at our wedding during his toast he said this and my heart melted all over again:
"Everyone, take a look at the flower arrangements on your table. My bride, my wife!, designed these herself. She ordered each flower individually, without ever seeing them together, and could envision how beautiful they would look right now. Monica, every time I think I have you figured out you find a way to blow me away."
The flowers were one of my favorite parts of the wedding --thank you Fifty Flowers for your great customer service and beautiful, beautiful flowers!
