Bouquets and centerpieces seem to get all the attention when discussing wedding flowers. Where's the boutonniere love, you ask!? Right here. We've curated our eight favorite fall boutonnieres to wow at your wedding this season.

Boutonnieres are like mini bouquets pinned onto the lapel, pocket, or shirt worn by most members of the wedding party, family, or other celebrated individuals. Sometimes overlooked, boutonnieres can truly be a design of self-expression.

1. This creatively hued look is from our styled shoot with Something Planned Events. I love contrasting colors in floral designs. The rich purple paired with bright yellow here is satisfying and memorable.

2. Our in-house designer used their love of "power clashing" or color blocking for this look. Fall is a season of many vibrant colors, so why not use them!? This style is for you if you love color, variety, or unusual designs.

Fall Boutonniere Pocket Square Tutorial

This fall boutonniere was a piece that everyone at FiftyFlowers fell in love with. Not because of the bright contrasting colors, though that first caught my eye. Notice that this fall boutonniere is shaped horizontally instead of vertically along the crease of the groom’s pocket. The change in orientation adds a distinct dimension. We call these pocket square boutonnieres, and we’ve included another look below for your inspiration and a step-by-step tutorial.

8 Fall Boutonniere Looks with Bonus DIY Tutorial supply list

Gather Your Supplies:

  • A piece of cardboard sized to fit the pocket
  • A ribbon of your choice, we recommend wider than an inch
  • Pick out an array of flowersgreenery, and filler cut into .5” - 1” pieces
  • Floral cold glue
  • Floral shears
  • Ribbon scissors
8 Fall Boutonniere Looks with Bonus DIY Tutorial step 1

This easy-to-construct fall boutonniere is much simpler than the traditional taped method. Begin by gluing your taller greens and flowers in the back to frame your focal flowers.

8 Fall Boutonniere Looks with Bonus DIY Tutorial glue the greenery

Pro tip: You'll be moving around to fit all the stems, and you don't want your hard work to fall out! So, blow on the glue while you're designing. Little breaths will help dry the glue to hold the pieces in place.

Next, begin gluing your flowers. Adjust angles and add variety by varying stem lengths. But you can also cut the head off without any stem and have it face out. We glued flowers in several positions to give the fall boutonniere a voluminous and diverse look.

Now your design is finished! Leave the square on a flat surface overnight to fully dry.

I love how wild and colorful it is. Every DIY designer will create something unique and equally gorgeous. Make this fresh new style all yours by changing colors and flower types. And for those who need to lose the jacket to bust a move, this little guy is happy to join you in your shirt pocket.

8 Fall Boutonniere Looks with Bonus DIY Tutorial finished look

Whether it's a pocket square, just greenery, or a traditional design, boutonnieres are a creative way to display personal style. You don't have to match the bouquet or other decor perfectly. Instead, make it unique and meaningful. Use this as a creative bonding experience as you and your partner plan your special day.

Light that apple cider candle and put those pumpkin chocolate cookies in the oven. Get into the fall boutonniere mood and let your creativity shine. Happy designing!
