How To Make A Flower Arrangement
Looking for ways to boost your mood? Flower arranging can be the trick! There’s something about it that completely relaxes you and keeps your mind busy. Whether you're learning how to make a flower arrangement for a loved one, or you want to treat yourself, we are sharing a flower arrangement idea to spark some creativity.
Here's what you'll need to create an arrangement:
- Your choice of vase
- Tape
- Shears
Floral arrangement recipe:
- 5 stems of Israeli Ruscus
- 5 stems red hypericum berries
- 5 stems of sunflowers
- 3 stems of baby's breath
- 7 stems of purple freesia
- 7 stems white ranunculus
- 3 stems of pink ranunculus
1. Begin with your greenery
Prior to starting, we created a 3x3 grid using tape on the opening of the vase. This will help the stems sit upright and stay in place. Next, we cut the bottoms of the stems at 45 degree angles which allows the stems to absorb more water. Then, we added in our Israeli Ruscus, making sure to place them at different angles.
2. Add your filler flowers
Filler flowers are used to fill in the arrangements and they often have more than one lateral. For this arrangement, we used hypericum berries. We removed any excess greenery where the stems met the water or where leaves were not as pristine as the other leaves. The reason why we usually remove the leaves from the water level is to limit bacteria growth/help maintain clear water. These berries can easily add fun texture and interest in an arrangement. They are also easy to work with and have a vase life of eight days with proper care and handling.
3. Add your focal flowers
Before applying the focal flowers, again, at the bottom we cut the stems at a 45 degree angle. After doing so, add your focal flowers; these are usually flowers with a large bloom. For this arrangement, we used sunflowers, which provided the perfect pop of color. Remember to work in a circle and rotate your vase as you arrange. This will allow you to see where more stems can be added for a fuller look.
4. Fill in any empty space
We love using flowers like baby's breath to fill in any space left empty. A little bit goes a long way with this type of filler! Then, we added in freesia for height and interest.
5. Add your delicate stems
Last but not least, layer in your delicate flowers and continue to rotate the arrangement to make sure you didn't miss any spots. Ranunculus is a great choice if you're looking for a flower with a high-petal count. They're very beautiful and provide amazing texture as well.
Now it's your turn. We are cheering you on! I know there will lots of love in the arrangement you create because it'll be homemade, from the heart!
Pro tip: When you notice the water level lowering from the water intake, kindly add more water. If the water is beginning to look dirty, you can refresh it with new water.
