Caring for Your Tweedia

Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect

  • Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.

  • Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.

Step 2: Prepare the Containers

  • Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten flower life.

  • Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

  • Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacteria growth.

  • Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.

  • Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.

Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain

  • Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging, strip additional leaves and thorns (if applicable).

  • Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. Allow your flowers to continue to hydrate for another 8 hours before beginning the design process.

  • Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.

  • Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.

Step 5: Time to Design

  • Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.

  • Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.

  • Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

Special Notes for Tweedia

  • Tweedia produces sap and should be placed in a vase by itself until ready to design.

Tips from Our Experts

  • Always keep flower buds above the bucket or vase rim to prevent your blooms from bruising.

  • Warm environments speed up blooming, while cooler areas slow it down. Adjust storage as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Use a floral finishing spray after arranging blooms to help them last longer.

My bestie pulled together a perfect little boutonniere with a tiny sprig of tweedia and a single green dianthus, and braided together a flower crown for her daughter of tweedia and white button poms that made her look like a little fairy child. She also added these into my bouquet to soften the larger flowers an greenery, which was perfect. There are so many little flowers on these that even though you'll lose a lot of heads (I felt like I was constantly picking them up all over the hotel) they'll stay beautiful and useful. No smell, but I consider that a bonus. We had so many leftovers that we took them to a friend's bed and breakfast afterwards and she decorated all over the place - they lasted a few days after the event and then starting falling to pieces but that's a solid 6 days from deliver so I think they were a good choice for us.

This was perfect for my thin flower crown. It's a little delicate but it worked great for that purpose. Perfect if you need small detailed flowers.

The wax flower was not available this time of the year but this was substituted and was absolutely perfect

Hi Robin,
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and kind words about the Tweedia Flower White! We’re excited to hear that the substitute we suggested during your consultation worked perfectly in place of the wax flower, which wasn’t available as it’s a seasonal variety. It’s always our goal to ensure that every bloom enhances your arrangements beautifully, and we’re so glad the Tweedia delivered for you.
We also noticed your wonderful reviews for the Boule De Neige Cream Peonies, White Designer Lisianthus Flower, and Snapdragon White Flower. Your support and appreciation mean the world to us, and it’s inspiring to know our selections have brought joy to your floral creations.
If you have any additional feedback or need assistance with future orders, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help in any way we can!
Warm regards,

Beautiful, just know that it's a weaker stem, good for spray bouquets.
