Please Note

Your flowers will arrive looking thirsty and sleepy. This is completely NORMAL. Please see our Flower Care tab on this page to learn how to properly care for and handle your flowers.

Package contents and prices are based on availability and may change due to weather and market conditions. If a substitution is necessary, we take great care to ensure your order closely matches your original flower choice, even if this means substituting flowers of higher value. In such cases, we may proceed with substitutions to ensure your order ships on schedule, even without prior verbal confirmation.

Caring for Your Gerberas

Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect

  • Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.

  • Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.

Step 2: Prepare the Containers

  • Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten flower life.

  • Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

  • Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacteria growth.

  • Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.

  • Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.

Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain

  • Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging, strip additional leaves and thorns (if applicable).

  • Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. Allow your flowers to continue to hydrate for another 8 hours before beginning the design process.

  • Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.

  • Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.

Step 5: Time to Design

  • Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.

  • Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.

  • Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

Special Notes for Gerberas

  • Gerberas are highly sensitive to stem blockages and bacterial buildup. To prevent this, place stems in shallow water and monitor levels closely. For optimal support and hydration, use a chicken wire grid across the top of your bucket to dangle the stems without letting them rest on the bottom. Alternatively, create a taped grid over your bucket or vase.

Tips from Our Experts

  • Always keep flower buds above the bucket or vase rim to prevent your blooms from bruising.

  • Warm environments speed up blooming, while cooler areas slow it down. Adjust storage as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Use a floral finishing spray after arranging blooms to help them last longer.

Delivery: Color
Flower Care: Mostly
Additional Information: Feel lied to, have time stamped pictures to prove they died, really upset not all 70 flowers even made it to venu date.
So wanted to Love them But, untimely left disappointed

First of all I was so impressed with the communication I got from the company, I had such high hopes for my little party for my mother's celebration of being Cancer free and I wanted these flowers to turn out gorgeous. The event was 2/21/25 - @ 6pm I worked for a floral shop for 5 years of my life so I do know about flowers and arrangements. I ordered 70 Gerber Daisy's. The customer service lady was so fantastic- but insisted they be delivered 3 days prior, because they would arrive as buds, and would need time to open- I was a little leary about this- however trusting her the expert I agreed. When they arrived I wasn't at the venue I had the guy immediately open to put in water and the cooler & take a photograph- I immediately concerned because every single Gerber was open fully some already looked a little wilty... Not one was a bud that needed 3 days to open fully ( so I sent this photo & my concerns to customer service) she of course insisted that the flowers were perfect. By Thursday about 7 flowers were dead, I have pictures that were sent to me. On Friday morning day of event about 10 flowers were bent over and wilted I tried some old floral tricks to help perk them up. To no avail.
By 6pm time of the celebration for my mother rolled around I did manage to get 4 vases of Gerber Daisy's- I did get called out by my sister for why did I buy the old wilted flowers from.. made me feel bad. By the next morning Saturday half of these flowers were so wilted .. I have pictures. I was so angry. I should've just used Bouqs company 😒 They were not buds like you said, and I should have just had delivered on day of venue!

Hi Jessica,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for choosing our Farm Mix Novelty Gerbera Daisies for such a special celebration. We’re honored to have been part of your mother’s cancer-free celebration, and we greatly value your thoughts on your experience.
We understand how important fresh and beautiful flowers were for such a meaningful event, and we regret to hear that the flowers did not meet your expectations. We carefully manage delivery times to ensure optimal freshness, and the recommendation to deliver two days prior instead of the day before was made to account for potential delays and to allow you ample time to sort the flowers. Gerbera daisies are typically delivered in an open state; blooming further isn’t required for their aesthetic to shine. When you initially reached out with your photo, the flowers looked fresh and in perfect condition, matching our quality standards.
That said, we understand how upsetting it must have been to encounter wilting by the day of your event. While we didn’t hear from you again about this issue after your first message, we absolutely would have wanted to address your concerns. For future reference, we encourage customers to contact us within 24 hours of delivery if they notice any issues. This ensures we can provide you with the best assistance and make things right promptly.
Our team is committed to constant improvement, and your feedback helps us work even harder to enhance what we provide. If you’d like to discuss this further or need any additional assistance, you can reach us directly at cservice@fiftyflowers.com or 1-877-50-ROSES.
Again, we appreciate your feedback and for allowing us to be part of such a significant occasion.
