Caring for Your Stock Flowers

Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect

  • Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.

  • Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.

Step 2: Prepare the Containers

  • Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten flower life.

  • Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

  • Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacteria growth.

  • Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.

  • Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.

Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain

  • Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging, strip additional leaves and thorns (if applicable).

  • Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. Allow your flowers to continue to hydrate for another 8 hours before beginning the design process.

  • Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.

  • Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.

Step 5: Time to Design

  • Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.

  • Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.

  • Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

Special Notes for Stock Flowers

  • Stock Flowers are very susceptible to mildew - be sure to change the water frequently.

  • It is very important not to overcrowd Stock Flowers in your bucket. Make sure they have enough space!

Tips from Our Experts

  • Always keep flower buds above the bucket or vase rim to prevent your blooms from bruising.

  • Warm environments speed up blooming, while cooler areas slow it down. Adjust storage as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Use a floral finishing spray after arranging blooms to help them last longer.

Delivery: Selection
Flower Care: Not really
Additional Information: I did not need this order to specifically arrive on 2/14, but only chose this because it was the earliest delivery date option. Was this date listed in error on the website or are late deliveries the norm?
Review of Stock Flowers Order

Ordered on 2/8 for a 2/14 delivery. Notice on 2/13 that flowers will arrive on 2/14 was not correct, UPDATE notice that flowers would arrive on 2/15 was not correct, 2nd UPDATE email notice of flowers arriving 2/17, but they did not look very good.

Next issue is that they were poorly packed and after following online rehydration instructions, but the flowers never recovered.
I purchased this item specifically due to an online "unboxing" video review because I was impressed with the care taken with packaging. I do not know if the flowers arriving 3 days late is responsible for the poor quality or the lack of care in packaging. This combination of issues will keep me from ordering in the future.

Hi Kelly,
Thank you for sharing your honest feedback about your recent experience with our Farm Fresh Stock Flowers. I sincerely apologize for the experience you had.
Regarding the delivery, while we aim for every order to arrive on time, unforeseen delays such as those caused by our shipping vendors can sometimes occur. We take this very seriously and actively monitor all shipments to minimize these issues.
Although we did reach out requesting photos to better understand the condition of the flowers and work towards a resolution, we did not receive a response. We’re here to help—please don’t hesitate to contact us if you’d still like assistance with this matter.
We also want to acknowledge your point about the ordering and delivery timing. For future reference, we advise against selecting Friday delivery because any delays can result in extended transit times over the weekend. We include this information on our website to help customers plan deliveries accordingly.
Kelly, your feedback is invaluable, and I assure you we are taking steps to improve both our communication and our processes to prevent similar experiences in the future. If you have additional concerns or would like to discuss this further, please feel free to reach out—we’d be happy to help in any way we can.
Thank you again for your feedback, and I hope you’ll consider giving us another chance to provide you with the excellent service and quality you deserve.
