Caring for Your Orchids

Bulk Orchids are shipped fresh directly from our partner farms. Before shipping, we hydrate and prepare them for their journey. These flowers arrive fully bloomed and ready to use—no advance time is needed for blooming. Follow the care steps below to keep them at their best.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect

  • Unpack and Inspect: Remove flowers from the box and inspect for any concerns.

  • Water Tube Handling:

    • If your orchids do not arrive in water tubes, skip ahead and proceed directly to Step 2.

    • If your orchids do arrive with water tubes:

      • Check to ensure each tube contains water.

      • Keep the stems upright with the tubes still attached—there is no immediate need to cut or place them in a container.

      • Monitor the water levels inside the tubes and refill as needed.

      • When you're ready to arrange, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Prepare the Containers

  • Choose Clean Containers: Use clean, sanitized containers to help prevent bacterial growth.

  • Fill with Water: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

  • Cut Stems Correctly: Using clean, sharp floral shears or scissors, cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom under cool running water.

  • Place Immediately: Immediately place the cut stems into the prepared water.

Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain

  • Environment: Keep orchids in a cool room around 65°F (18°C), away from direct sunlight, drafts, and excessive heat. Do not refrigerate, as cold temperatures may damage the blooms.

  • Hydration Maintenance: Recut stems every 24 hours and refresh the water to extend vase life.

  • Remove Spent Blooms: Orchids bloom from the top down. It is normal for lower blooms to fade first—gently remove any aging blooms daily.

Step 5: Time to Design

  • Ready to Arrange: Orchids are shipped in full bloom and can be used immediately for your arrangements.

  • Optional Storage: If using later, you may leave the orchids upright with stems in their water tubes until you're ready to design.

Precautions

  • Tinted Flowers: Tinted flowers may release color into the water, which is perfectly normal. To keep the water clear and clean, be sure to change it regularly. Tinted water can also stain surfaces, so be cautious. The dye may transfer to skin or clothing, so we recommend wearing gloves while handling. For added protection, especially with clothing like a white wedding dress, wrap the stems to prevent dye from transferring.
