Please Note

Your flowers will arrive looking thirsty and sleepy. This is absolutely NORMAL. Please see our Flower Care tab on this page to learn how to properly care for and handle your flowers.

As flowers are a natural product of Mother Nature and monitor resolutions can differ, the exact color tones of this flower may vary to some degree.

Package contents and prices are based on availability and may change due to weather and market conditions. If a substitution is necessary, we take great care to ensure your order closely matches your original flower choice, even if this means substituting flowers of higher value. While we will make every effort to contact you, there may be rare instances where we are unable to reach you in time. In such cases, we may proceed with substitutions to ensure your order ships on schedule, even without prior verbal confirmation.

Caring for Your Carnations

Our flowers are shipped fresh directly from our farms to your doorstep. When you first open the box, your flowers might appear "sleepy" or "thirsty," which is completely normal. These flowers have just completed an international journey and need water. Following the important care and preparation steps below will help rehydrate them and ensure they last as long as possible.

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

Step 1: Unpack and Inspect

  • Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.

  • Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.

Step 2: Prepare the Containers

  • Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten flower life.

  • Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

  • Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacteria growth.

  • Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.

  • Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.

Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain

  • Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging, strip additional leaves and thorns (if applicable).

  • Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. Allow your flowers to continue to hydrate for another 8 hours before beginning the design process.

  • Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.

  • Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.

Step 5: Time to Design

  • Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.

  • Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.

  • Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

Tips from Our Experts

  • Always keep flower buds above the bucket or vase rim to prevent your blooms from bruising.

  • Warm environments speed up blooming, while cooler areas slow it down. Adjust storage as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.

  • Use a floral finishing spray after arranging blooms to help them last longer.

Would choose FiftyFlowers a million times over!!!!!

I chose FiftyFlowers after being quoted over $10,000 for my wedding florals, and I was able to get everything I needed and more with my $2,000 purchase!

They arrived PERFECT. I’m not kidding when I say not a single flower was dead or damaged. I got them three days before my wedding, immediately put them in water, and let them drink for 24 hours before arranging them.

Arranging flowers with my bridesmaids ended up being such a fun memory, and they turned out absolutely perfect. I wouldn’t change a thing!

They were much smaller than most carnations I’ve worked with.

The flowers arrived when they were supposed to.

Really bummed

3 of the 4 flowers we ordered we fine, but the purple Nirvana roses were really disappointing. I called customer service within 20 min of reviewing them and they had me put in a claim. I did that, they promised to call in 24 hours to check to see if they perked up. They never called. These are for my daughters wedding and are limp and brown.

Hi Stephanie,

Thank you for sharing this with us. We’re happy to hear that 3 of the 4 flowers in your order arrived in good shape.

However, we understand how disappointing this must have been to receive Purple Nirvana roses that were limp and browning, especially with your daughter’s wedding so close. We also understand how frustrating it feels when you took the time to call right away, submitted a claim within minutes, and then did not receive the promised follow-up call within 24 hours.

Your experience is important to us, and we would like the opportunity to review what happened with the callback and the status of your claim. If you still have your claim number, please share it with our team so we can look up the notes and next steps. For future reference, contacting us within 24 hours of delivery, just as you did, is the best way for us to address time-sensitive flower concerns.
