Wedding Collection Care Instructions
Your Wedding Collection flowers are shipped directly from our farms to your doorstep. Before shipping, we prepare them for their journey with proper hydration methods. A printed Care Instructions card is included with your order. Please follow the care steps below according to the types of flowers included in your selected package.
For Pre-Arranged Items
(Bouquets, Boutonnieres, Corsages, Centerpieces, Crown, Cake Flowers, Aisle Markers)
Step 1: Unpack and Inspect
Bring flowers indoors immediately upon delivery.
Cut and remove outer straps, open the box, and inspect contents.
Arrangements are secured to an inner tray. Carefully remove tray and discard outer box.
Remove smaller items (like boutonnieres or corsages) first, handling everything gently.
Step 2: Hydrate
Boutonnieres & Corsages
If your flowers arrived with water tubes:
Gently hold the water tube in one hand and pull back the soft plastic top (do not remove the flowers from the cap).
Remove the cotton wrap around the stems.
Fill the tube with clean, cool water and reseal it around the flower stems.
Do not push, pull, or apply pressure to the flowers when handling.
Light mist with spray water bottle or floral hydration spray.
Store in a cool, dark environment. You do not need to refrigerate these and can skip Step 3.
If your flowers did not arrive with water tubes:
Proceed directly to refrigeration. There is no need to cut stems or place them in water.
Refrigerate
Light mist with spray water bottle or floral hydration spray such as Crowning Glory. If using floral hydration spray, allow to dry before placing into refrigerator
Place the boutonnieres or corsages in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Keep them away from fruits and vegetables, which release gases that can damage flowers.
Ensure the refrigerator stays above 40°F — freezing temps can ruin the blooms.
Bouquets (Bridal & Bridesmaid)
Prepare vases with 3–4 inches of cool water and flower food.
Remove each bouquet by firmly holding the stems and unfastening the Velcro strap securing it to the tray.
Discard wrapping, including sponge and plastic sleeve.
Use clean, sharp floral shears to give bouquets a fresh cut.
Place in vase ensuring water level stays below ribbon to prevent staining or damage.
Add fresh water daily as needed.
Do not refrigerate. Store in a cool, dark environment.
Pre-Arranged Centerpieces / Aisle Markers / Cake Flowers
If the product arrives in a container or with a water source (such as foam), top off with fresh water.
Use clean, sharp floral shears to give flowers a fresh cut (if applicable) before placing back in container.
Light mist with spray water bottle or floral hydration spray.
Store in a cool, dark environment.
Flower Crowns
Lightly mist with spray water bottle or floral hydration spray such as Crowning Glory. If using floral hydration spray, allow to dry before placing into refrigerator.
Place the crown in a tightly sealed box/container in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Keep them away from fruits and vegetables, which release gases that can damage flowers.
Ensure the refrigerator stays above 40°F — freezing temps can ruin the blooms.
For DIY Items
(DIY Centerpieces, DIY Garlands, DIY Arch, Bulk Flower Packages)
Note: Care instructions below can be used for the majority of our flowers - for more information on specific care for each flower included in your kit, please visit their individual flower pages.
Step 1: Unpack and Inspect
Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.
Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.
Step 2: Prepare the Containers
Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten flower life.
Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, and mix in flower food if available.
Step 3: Trim and Place in Water
Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacteria growth.
Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.
Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems into the prepared water immediately, ensuring enough space in each container to allow the flowers to bloom properly.
Step 4: Hydrate and Maintain
Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging, strip additional leaves and thorns (if applicable).
Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. Allow your flowers to continue to hydrate for another 8 hours before beginning the design process.
Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.
Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.
Step 5: Time to Design
Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.
Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.
Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.
Tips from Our Experts
Always keep flower buds above the bucket or vase rim to prevent your blooms from bruising.
Warm environments speed up blooming, while cooler areas slow it down. Adjust storage as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.
Use a floral finishing spray after arranging blooms to help them last longer.
Precautions
Tinted Flowers: If your kit contains tinted flowers, they may release color into the water, which is perfectly normal. To keep the water clear and clean, be sure to change it regularly. Tinted water can also stain surfaces, so be cautious. The dye may transfer to skin or clothing, so we recommend wearing gloves while handling. For added protection, especially with clothing like a white wedding dress, wrap the stems to prevent dye from transferring.
Thorns: Flowers with thorns require extra care. Wear gloves when handling them, and consider using a thorn stripping tool for added ease and safety.
