Amsonia Night Sky flowers are shipped directly from our farms. Before shipping your flowers, we prepare them for shipment with proper hydration methods. If your flowers appear sleepy and thirsty after their journey it is absolutely NORMAL. Just follow these simple steps and the flowers will bloom delightfully.

  1. Open your box of flowers and inspect. * Make sure you have the correct number of stems of Amsonia. They will come in bunches of 10 stems.

  2. Ensure that your flower buckets are clean and disinfected. We recommend cleaning immediately before placing flowers in them, even if you have cleaned them previously.

  3. Fill the buckets with at least 4 inches of fresh, cool water. Diluted water is best. If flower food was shipped with the Amsonia, follow the instructions on the packet to add it to the water. If not, it can be purchased at any local florist.

  4. Remove flowers from box by cutting any straps.

  5. Remove any flower bunch packaging material, including plastic sleeve and/or newspaper. Using scissors works best, as pulling off sleeves manually can damage your flowers.

  6. Cut one stem under cool, running water with a sharp pair of scissors to desired length.

  7. Immediately after cutting, place the stem in a prepared bucket.*

  8. Continue this process. Only cut one stem at a time!*

  9. Allow flowers at least 4 hours to hydrate well. Flowers may take up to 12 hours to properly hydrate.

  10. Store your Amsonia in a cool, dark room. Keep flowers away from direct sunlight, drafts or excessive heat.

  11. Change water every 24 hours to keep flowers fresh. Always assure that your flowers have sufficient water. The flowers will drink an exceptionally large amount of water upon arrival, so you may have to replenish their water more frequently at first.

* If upon first inspection, you foresee a problem with your flowers, do not proceed processing your flowers. Leave the flowers intact in the box and call us immediately to 1.877 50 ROSES (507-6737).

*Ensure that you have sufficient room in each bucket for the amount of flowers you will be storing in the bucket. Flowers need room to breath and bloom; over stuffing buckets with too many flowers, can cause damage as well as prevent proper blooming.

*Cutting more than one stem at a time takes longer, meaning they are not placed immediately in water. This can cause air bubbles in the stem that prevent the flower from drinking the water they need to bloom, as well as cause the flowers to wilt and brown faster.
